Architecture to me always means vintage,
though that is an inaccurate assessment of the word.
Unable to live in a home with what I consider
to have real architecture, I hauled part of a
rooftop from a vintage home into my living room.
What can I say it makes me happy?
Many of my vintage cabinets and tables have
other people's names on them.
No, I did not borrow from them, nor are they waiting for my demise,
(at least I hope not), they are waiting for their
chance to own the piece, if and when I decide to sell.
Some pieces have as many as four names.
About this piece, I have had dozens of people say to me
" If you ever decide to get rid of that..."
But folks, I have to tell you, even if I decide to sell off everything,
which I threaten to do now and again and some day it may be necessary,
this piece will never be in the estate sale or the focus of an auctioneer's gavel.
If I have to strap it to the roof of my car and it finally
settles into a teensy studio apartment, it is staying with this gal.
It's not just architecture, it is character.
You cannot buy good character, and you
should never barter with it either.
You either have it or you don't.

Yeah, THAT rocks, FOR SURE! Too cool, Z!
Wow, you don;t fool around do you. Who would have thought to bring a roofline into a house like that. Amazing and talented and so creative. I am in awe.
Suzan, I totally would keep that also. If I saw it for sale I would wrestle in the mud for it. ♥O
Hi Suzan:)
I can see why you won't be selling it. It's great!!!!!But.....if you ever...............;)

I've been tellin my husband for years that I could make a career out of architectural salvage! That is an amazing piece. I wouldn't part with it either!

Smart girl, I wouldn't part with that piece either!

And actually you did have it right, real Architecture has both "Form and Function." Your priceless piece is timeless and is not made anymore. How lucky you were to find it and now own it :D

Oh my that is one gorgeous piece! I would never , never , never part with it either...unless say you gave it to a blogger named Sandi! HA HA! My hubby don't get the whole chippy thing because he is a cabinet builder by heart, but he indulges me anyways!!
Blessings~
it is a gorgeous piece
I am new to your blog and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I love the post regarding your mother. Very touching. I love your doily garland, your decorating... everything. Gorgeous. Tammy
Gumption is like that - either you have it or don't. You can't just decide to have it and go get some. And if you have to ask what it is, you don't have it. That piece has character and you have gumption for parking it in your living room. Beauty!
What a great piece. I definitely know how you feel, some things stay no matter what! and they are never the pricey things, just the sentimental ones.
good for you and the fact that it makes you happy. it would make me happy also. it is marvelous. it has such character and bones. Bestest, Denise
WOW!!!!!!!!! That piece is AMAZING! Put me on the list but, I don't blame you... I'd keep it forever too. A girl just MUST have her favorite toys! Have a great weekend.

I don't blame you, I would part with such a piece either. I have a couple that I will never part with.......hope my kids feel the same after I'm gone.
Take care,
Kathleen
That piece (couldn't think what else to call it!) is gorgeous. We have a huge blank wall in our living room that I've been searching for the right 'piece' for. Just might have to be something like yours Suzan! Thanks for the inspiration.

It's beautiful. I wouldn't sell it either! What a wonderful find!

Hi Suzan, I just read the touching post about your mother and it brought me to tears. Very meaningful and thought provoking. Your doily garland is gorgeous. As is this magnificent piece of architecture. Have a great weekend. :) Tammy
Sweet. Definitely a keeper.
Love your comment about buying character! So true! You either have it or you don't. :D Great photos, and a very unique piece of architecture!
HI Z!
I love that "you can't buy good character" I can't decide if you sound more like a horse merchant or a Jane Austen character. Whatever, you are right! Hang on to that piece, its's beautiful.
Thank you for posting my button and for your kind comments

I don't blame you...it is wonderful. I would never have thought to do something like that, but I love it!
I think if I had that amazing piece (and LOVE the way you used it!) I'd have to be buried with it..which may cause a problem seeing how I want to be cremated! Oh I got it..I just won't go!!
YOU my dear are a CHARACTER! you know I was going to say that.
Gee maybe I should see if someone else wrote that:) ok no time!
btw.. take those names right off that piece!
