Fall Garland

I finally had some time to get the garland up.

The leaves look like different shades

 in the lighting, but they are the same. 

I used my favorite Tim Holtz paper pack.

Kept me busy for a few evenings while listening to 

tunes and daydreaming.

I like it.

October Class

I love paper.

My father was in advertising 

and he received boxes full of

sample papers at work

which he brought home for me 

when they became outdated.

I adored the stacked sample cards 

of colors and textures

and happily created projects

for hours with just scissors and glue.

I still can cut and paste happily for hours,

so October's class is all about paper

with a few pretty beads thrown in.

My Dad used to bring home paper sample books  

he received in his position as 

Director of Advertising for several companies.

I adored them and happily cut and pasted for hours.

There are many more projects 

but I like to leave some surprises.

The HOLIDAY Gatherings are the 

grandaddy of Gatherings.

More projects, more food, more gifts,

 and a house full of 

snow and glitter and holiday spirit.

I made the tree years ago by wrapping cotton batting 

around each limb of an ugly old green artificial one

I had sheared down.

Just a fool for Love

A stringing Fool

Poor photos I know, but it's midnight,

and I have another full day tomorrow.

Just wanted to show a couple gals who asked 

what the paper garland looked like. 

Draped over my Juliet balcony.

There are three strands so far, 

both about 9 feet in length.

Two strands to go and then.....? 

Don't know if they will drape the chandelier,

or just dance in the breeze right here by the heater outlet.

Combo of bad lighting and movement at midnight equals

bad photos.....but when you are in a hurry after 

dying your hair at 11:00 pm and still have at least an hour

of prep for tomorrow and an early am ahead, I'm hoping

my gal pals will forgive me.

If you feel the urge, it is just jute and punched shapes.

Pairs glued together with the jute sandwiched in between.

By My Hand

Each week Chania gives us a photo challenge and

various ideas go through our heads until we have our AHA! moment.

Mine came a couple of days ago when I unearthed this

scherenschnitte I had cut about 20 years ago.

When I was first married, money was scarce and we made our

entire holiday decorations out of felt, paper and ribbon.

This was one piece of a series of ornaments and table displays

I made for our home one year.

I have not done much paper cutting in the years since,

though occasionally I would throw one into my Gathering classes.

Most people balk at the time required for such intricate cutting,

but I always found it relaxing. Relaxing?

(Yeah yeah, I enjoy weird stuff like Organizing,

and cutting minute pieces of paper. What can I say? )

Right before doing this post, I surfed the net

and found fabulous artists doing incredible work with

small scissors and Xactos. Maybe you should check it out?

It's affordable, portable and fun!

Don't you just love the squirrel tail?

I am pretty confident that this has sparked a renewed interest in

my paper skills. I just need to get past this one last week

with a client, and then it is clear sailing to the studio and

holiday gifting and crafting.
