70

The birthday plans changed as I drove to LA so that
I could attend bonus son Ivan's competition.
First night there Hannah and Nick went to a
 friends B-day party Barbie themed.
They went as Barbie and Oppenheimer

First two nights at Ben and Helene's

Ben grilled a lovely meal and I was eaten alive (over 40 bites)
by these nasty mosquitoes that invaded CA-aedes - I'll spare you the photos.
In fact I had an allergic reaction called Skeeter syndrome.
It'll be awhile for swelling and infected areas to go away.

Bright and early Saturday after Ben prepared a lovely light breakfast
we drove to Anneheim for Ivan's event.
Ivan did great ( second from left),
but was disappointed at second place

After event lunch at this smorgasbord place.
Many restaurants for takeout and then we reconvened to eat.
I love this photo of Ben and Ivan.
Best buds since jr high.

That evening a takeout Chinese feast

Are you grasping the gastronomy path
we take when together?

 Then kids treated me
to luxury suite at Mr C's Beverly Hills.

Comped Peach Bellinis to start
Walter and Hannah on one of two balconies.

In the room my favorite pizza caceo pepe,
and mushroom, both wood fired.

Next day lunch with all-
Here Hannah, Ivan, and Ben

Ben,  Helene and Kevin, Ivan's boyfriend

Walter did great with his new just for the trip, pup cart. He loved it!!
It will totally change how we get out and about.
I highly recommend.
He felt safe and so no barking at strangers or dogs.
Walter made best friends with security guard Julian.

We also crammed in a little traditional Target run,
a visit to Culver's terrific farmers market Saturday morning.
I am so envious of their farmers markets.
Hannah gave me a Taro reading that was freakishly spot on.

Breakfast at the coffee shop where
Nick and Hannah had first date.

Then salt water pool date at Mr C's with her two besties
Heidi and Jenny.
These thirty somethings even played Marco Polo.
Hilarious!
These three started a very cool writer's group
and all are doing great things, well, WILL
continue as soon as strike is over.

Walter enjoying our last morning.
Oh and yes this is dog friendly hotel.
A doggie area right near the front so we went up
and out easily as needed.

Gorgeous landmark hotel and it turns out I stayed
there the last day it was Mr C's.
It was sold Monday to a large corp.
I sure hope they keep all the staff.
They were exceptional.

So this is 70

A wonderful visit with the most important people in my life.
I hate sharing any photos of me, as those of you who have been here
since 2008 can attest. However it seemed to be a requirement for this post,
even with my swollen, red, arms and hands from those horrible bites.
It's an important milestone and although
I felt guilty for all the kids did for me, it was such a blessing this gift
of time we all shared.
I gifted them each part one of my Story Worth.
You saw the wrapped versions in a previous post.
I'm thinking that this next year I will
search thru the years of blogs for some writings
I am pleased with and add a few more gems
 to who Suzan Rennie was.

This was the bookmark I added to their books
One of my favorite photos of me at 24,
before I was no longer just Suzan Rennie.
oh so very long ago.

Priscilla

This ball of energy came very close to being renamed
Mamie Eisenhower, an homage to Howie,
 whose real name was Eisenhower,
and coming to live with me.

I spent last week in LA with the kids
and my DD#2 had scheduled an appointment
at the dog cafe for Saturday.

There you get to spend one hour in a large room
playing with available dogs and then you fill out an
extensive application, home visit etc.
I went with an attitude that this is all too soon,
and I had a certain type in mind...

Priscilla hopped onto my lap within minutes
and promptly fell asleep in my arms.
I was in love.
She stayed there about 40 minutes
until suddenly her best friend
Randy was adopted and left.
She was frantic.

If you go to the link and are in LA
Vivien was also a love, but too large for me
while carrying 0/2.

We left, and Ben and Hannah
filled out the application ( right outside the door)
as time was of the essence.
It took 45 minutes doing that, and that night we answered
a zillion questions on line and sent pics of entire home.

Fast forward we discovered she had been returned
once already due to her super high energy
( they referred to her as tazmanian devil)
which did not scare me too much
as she was only 8 months old.
But the first three weeks after adoption,
she would have to live in
LA with Tom and Hannah who work A LOT
and she would add stress to their schedules.
Then we planned they would drive
 her to me at Christmas.
When we discovered the hyperactivity
I decided the timing wasn't right
and so I removed my application.
This is not a "first serve"
they "SELECT" the best fit for the dog.

Ben and Helene took me to two more shelters on Sunday
but I didn't connect with any other pooches.
At first it felt like serendipity with Priscilla even though
I am still grieving, but then my practical self
said don't rush, it'll happen.

A week with the kids was amazing.
David my grand-dog slept with me every night.
I can now tell you that Ben and Helene
bought a house. They close very soon.
They are beyond excited
and then 5 months later the wedding!!!
Excited and uber stressed
I missed being able to see inside or help the move
by one week. Things were delayed.

Thanksgiving dinner was delicious.
I made a five cheese mac and cheese
( first time we had for turkey day) that I
will make again, and Ben made
 his famous sausage stuffing
and Hannah cooked a perfect bird.

Of course I came home with a horrific cold/cough
Luckily driving like a bat out of hell
got me home in 4 hours.

I got my 0/2 and perishables out of the car
and left everything else in it.
It may stay there till the weekend.

Gonna catch up with Y'all soon.

Is it really December 3rd already!!
Damn I only have the porch decorated so far.
Maybe we'll just hang there the whole time.

LA Lost and Found

My dear friend Chania's most heartfelt gift to me,
allowed me to visit my son Ben in LA for a few days
last weekend.
Ben grilled our evening meals out on his patio and you can see why. The view is spectacular each evening. You gals who are photo geniuses would do so much better than these, but it gives you the general idea.

Ben has visiting skunks and a coyote who comes quite near
and red tailed hawks that swoop down
hunting prey and it is just lovely.

I despise the CA freeway system, I hate driving anywhere in CA actually, especially alone, I had to put on my big girl pants to do this trip. I managed to get lost only once the morning I left, scared myself a bit but I eventually found a freeway
that got me back on track...
What good is a map navigator on your phone if it cannot locate your current location!!!!

We didn't do much running around, we mostly visited and
grilled and had a nice mom/son time. I could not ask for more.

On the home front I have plans to rearrange some rooms
soon and purge some more and well, there is the turning
"not sixty yet" later this week, so some fun get together
meals with gal pals are scheduled.

No, I have not yet photographed what totes are left,
sorry you girls who have inquired..I will soon I promise.
Some business woman I am..not

We are hot here and the rain that finally fell in
torrents, fell while I was gone..argh!

As much as some of you enjoy this time of year
because of the lovely places you live,
I am summer bah humbugging and praying for early fall
and winter to hurry..
sorry
