Lovely Sunday Morn

Not what you expected?
Neither did I.
My phone rang-"from the City Of ..."
There is an emergency in your neighborhood,
please stay in your homes.

So instead of showing you these

I spent the morning listening to bullhorns,
what we think were tear gas explosions and
battering rams or whatever they use to blow off doors.

It has been quiet for about 30 minutes and I just saw an
ambulance slowly leaving and officers walking back
toward their vehicles. Over 25 vehicles mind you.

Now, what occurred to me while I was sitting
observing this, while being a mite rattled, is
that many people in this world live with
extreme violence every day of their lives.
Small children, the elderly,
not just the perpetrators or the defenders, but
women like you and me, just going about
their lives, making coffee in the morning,
headed to the studio to make some totes to sell.

Puts it all in BIG FAT perspective doesn't it?
I have concerns with health care and education
and gas prices and corruption and the economy,
just like everyone else....
but right this minute I feel so fortunate,
that I live in a country where this many individuals
are willing to put themselves in harms way
to protect a few others.

So if you are safe, and your loved ones are safe,
drop to your knees, or thank your lucky stars.
I need another cup of coffee and will post the totes
in the shop later.

Good grief, what a sight to wake up to...and you are right, so many people live with violence. My 83 year old neighbor was removed from his house this summer for beating his wife of the same age. Aparently he suffered from a mental illness and would not take his meds. He had done thos for many years. She stuck to her guns and tragically he killed himself. We never knew, but it sure made me stop and think about what people contend with.

I do hope your neighbor is Ok. there's a lot of stress in the world right now and people can;t cope.

Oh my goodness, Suzan! Do you know any of what happened? Mind-boggling, isn't it? One minute everything is just an ordinary morning. The next you have something of that magnitude. Love the totes!

P.S. If you really think about it, we go through life clueless as to what is really going on around us. Those that protect us also shelter us from a lot of the bad. I am grateful for Law Enforcement and our Armed Forces too.~Ames

This would be a scary thing to wake up to. It's generally pretty quiet around my home and I'm very grateful.

Glad everything is okay and you were not put into harms way.

Btw, I love the totes.

Geez Z I hope that you checked if all doors were closed! I would have been so afraid and you sounds so cool about it. Oh yes just thinking at all the poor people in Libya right now *sigh* with a civil war going on right before their homes, it must be so awful and I sure am thankful that my family and I live in a safe country!
Stay safe ny friend!

Well, your weekend was much more exciting than mine! What a sight to wake up to and I hope it turned out ok. You are so right about how many people wake up everyday to such sights as their norm and have to contend with so much. Our police and emergency personnel respond to efficiently that it makes me grateful to live in this country. Hope it all turned out well. Ann

My kids were in "lock down" at school last week one day because of a big drug bust going on right next to the school. We live in a community of only 4500. But, it's an interestingly diverse and challenging community. Yes, thankful for those who help to keep us safe. What an awful morning for you. I do love the totes though!

Yep, big persepctive. And you are so right; we need to be thankful there are so many people willing to put themselves at risk for our safety.
Swat teams, coroners vehicles, all things indicative of something very awful - was it more than just a little disconcerting to wake up to that?
A similar thing happened to my daughter when she was about 19 and living with friends in Calgary. A SWAT team responded to a domestic at the house next door, and they had officers stationed on her front porch - an unbelievably upsetting knock on her door to reality.
When you have lived safe and sound and free of violence it must be more than a little unsettling to be confrontted face to face with such a monster.
