It Doesn't Take Much

it doesn't take much
i glance around and notice comfort
Good Tidings
left out all year to remind me of my friend Carole
large heart also from her
tangibles to connect

simple scene of waiting mail
  details

glimpse of sunshine and reflected antler, a morning gift

dark hearts are hidden among the light
i have learned this
i intentionally surround myself
with reminders of the universe

affirmation needed

 good times remembered

summer days with DD and Shakespeare
cloth from the costumes of '03
soon to be a graduation gift - "fabric of our lives"

loved patina of this fountain..but silent
except for annoying motor

life is not etched in granite
evaluate, repair, give away or walk away

flotsam and jetsam

some folks
seem busy for the sake of busy
wallow and thrive... in drama
keep digging instead of climbing out
the universe coughs up a lot
but you almost always have choices

i threaded wire through tubing and attached it bent...
now a lovely sound is tucked into a corner
evaluate - repair

added orphan door to tabletop
cloche brought in from outside
sometimes it takes a while to notice
a good pairing
evaluate - re-pair

my polka dot cup of Joe
suits the tableau
suits me

“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
― William Morris

simple comforts
it doesn't take much

embrace what works
stop tolerating what does not

 discover what truly matters
and what doesn't
make things happen for you
not to you

I've been trying to do this for the past year...I believe I'm succeeding now if I could just get the recyclables down to thrift store :D

your home, inside, is as beautiful as the outside

What a timely post for me, I have been taking boxes and boxes of no longer loved things out of my house. Magazines, books, stuff, it feels good to share it with the seekers of treasure out there, let someone else love them for awhile. The other day I took a ceramic pig away that had been in the closet for so long. If it was in a closet for eight years, why did I need it......
I learned William Morris' quote in college and it has stayed with me through the years, I try to live by those words, but sometimes something really dumb comes home with me:)

Z what a lovely post! I am hoping to get back to my purging soon. After being gone so long I've so much to do this Spring! Cleaning, purging and yes surrounding myself with only the things that I love!
hugs, Linda

Love it all, especially the saying on the chalk board. Can I borrow that for my desktop? Have a good week. Kit

Z, this writing is beautiful and seems that it was meant for me to read tonight. Great quote...just all so beautiful. Thank you.

Clever girl. Maybe the trick to a rich, full life is just to live and do whatever the hell you enjoy doing because it is YOUR life. I love your 'home tours'... your pictures and words are comforting/ beautiful/ fun.

This was a wonderful post! In the late summer we moved to a house in a new state via the military. As I've been unpacking, I have over half the basement filled with boxes that will be finding new homes. I love the quote, 'it is time for them to be loved by someone else'. Seeing I'm an extremely sentimental type, this helps me to let go thinking they'll be loved elsewhere. Have a great day!

This was a beautiful post and don't know how I missed it. Very well stated and enjoyed the tour of your oh-so-peaceful decor as well. Thank you.

I've heard so many people throw around the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." It is probably time for everyone to just accept the fact that sometimes "trash is just trash."

And, yes, it's going to be o.k.
