GREY SHOES

CEREAL IS EXPENSIVE IN NEW YORK
While watching Darling Daughter munch on some
generic brand of cereal while on iChat, I inquired why she
was munching cardboard.
"Mom, cereal is so expensive here."

So I have the brilliant idea to send her some cereal as a hOOt,
and buy her a couple boxes of Quaker Oat Squares her fave.
Running very late yesterday, I cram the cereal into a flat rate
box and grabbing shoes from the shoe basket on the stairs I head out.
I'm sure it has occurred to most of you that paying about
10.00 for 2 boxes of cereal and 10.00 for the flat rate box, this was
not an economical move, but more one of mother love.

I join the line at the post office just before they lock the doors,
out of breath and grasping a box that shakes with the sound of well, cereal.
The line is pretty jammed up, everyone standing uncomfortably
close to each other. You wish you could check your breath
in your palm or sneak a pit sniff, but no room. When trying to act nonchalant,
I tend to stare off into the distance or stare at the floor. I chose down.
Stared at my shoes. Notice anything? Look again.... sigh

I had been running errands for about 4 hours wearing two different shoes.
This awareness starts me to chuckling and nearly talking out loud to myself.
Perhaps I was, because the woman in front of me turned around
with a disapproving look, so I simply pointed down to my feet.
She looked, paused, looked again and then harumphed
and turned back around... which made me snort and hiccup burp as
I considered what she would think if she was aware
I was clutching a box of cereals that I was mailing to New York.

Of course this has nothing to do with White Wednesday
so here is some white : 0

If you missed my last two posts check them out, loads more white!
As my then 15 year old son used to say
"where Christmas goes to throw up..."

Please join Kathleen over at Faded Charm for another WW.
and double check your shoes during the holiday hustle.

I especially love looking down, when I've been out ALL day, and realizing a shirt has been buttoned wrong, too! Love these three posts - "Where Christmas goes to throw up" - funny guy! You don't leave out any little detail, I noticed...like the second post down, with the tiny bottle brush trees in the drawers! BEAUTIFUL, Z!

Too funny Suzan...sounds like something I'd do lately. And why are people so grouchy anyway? You're just trying to be a good Momma, anyways.

Your first photo through the mirror is amazing....I love everything about it!

Enjoy your Wednesday.

What a great idea to mail it! She will know right away by the sound of it. Such a sweet mumma.

I wore different shoes to an exam once....

At least yours were the same shape and same basic style.!

There is a lot to laugh about in this post but I wouldn't do that at your expense. But will you feel better if I told you that my husband wore two different shoes to work? He ran to Macy's and bought a new pair. And another time he wore a navy suit coat with black pants, but thankfully, caught it and made it home.

You are a good mom.

XO,
Jane

I eat that cereal every day and I would mail it to my kid also in a flash. The shoe thing is funny and they are quite similar. Your son's description is too cute in a graphic way. Except I would say "White Christmas came..."

What a great story...sounds like something I would do. Obviously the woman in front of you had no sense of humor whatsoever!
And I completely get sending the cereal to your daughter...it's what us mothers do!
Beautiful Christmas decorations. Your tree looks stunning!

Hilarious z, just hilarious! They may not match, but they certainly go together - I have some earrings that were made to be a pair, but not match exactly. It could work on feet too...lol.
I love those flat rate boxes; they allow you to do fun things like that and sending the cereal itself is a hoot where just sending the cash wouldn't be at all. Bet she loves it and always remembers it!

I have to tell you - I've done that before. And the shoes didn't look quite as similar as yours.

I couldn't stop laughing when I finally noticed my feet!

I can't believe the woman didn't laugh with you ... we've all done this and its a hoot.. Running into work one day I suddenly became so aware of the pavement under my feet ... looking down, my fuzzy pink slippers, forgot the shoes altogether. I think these are the things that make our days fun. Loved your post!
