BYE BYE Books

I decided some thinning out was due
with regards to the books that have been breeding
unfettered in the office.

I have had a life long love affair with books.
Although DD gave me a "Nook" that I use when I travel,
I love the feel of a book in my hand, while
curled up in the chair you can see a smidgen of here.
You've seen it before.
If one of you decides to zoom in
you will see the complete collection
of Robert B Parker, a dear favorite of mine,
and DD's beloved Potter's from childhood.
Even though I check out several
 dozen books most months,
I still managed to accumulate a "couple."

The Utilitarian ones are kept under here.
DIY's, Grammar,  Classic Childrens' collected more for
their illustrations than stories at times, and classics from
school days many moons ago.

I ended up with four bags to be donated,
one is out of view, don't be snarky...hehe
I had grander intentions but DD called
in the midst of the culling, and quickly said
"Don't be ruthless, I may want some."

sigh

If I must fail at a purge, it should be
a failure concerning books don't you think?
I believe I welcomed the
request as an excuse to hold on a little longer
to a just a few more volumes.

A Happy Week To You Guys!

You are making good progress.
I agree books are the hardest item to part with.
We moved house last year and I cried when disposing of some. Once they are gone you will not miss them and be happy with the space.
Have a great week

I did a book purge this past year. My well read daughter was always making fun of my David Baldacci and Nelson DeMille books, so those were the first to go. She just doesn't get that a book like that is such a good read when you are lounging on the beach!
As many as I got rid of, I still have shelves and shelves of books. I agree with you, nothing like holding a book, turning the pages, having a good bookmark!

I have not yet started on my annual January purge so bravo to you!
I agree about holding books in your hands but I am very selective about actually purchasing them because of the space they take up. Thank goodness for the library!

I do understand! I love books but when I moved to my small duplex I did a major purge of books. It was hard but I'm glad I did it! I still have several shelves full of books but now when I read a novel I donate it. I use the library for current releases, I just get on the list and wait. My budget thanks me and my home thanks me!
hugs,
Linda

Wait a minute....are you at my house! I am also in the process of parting with books. However, I should have done it long ago, so the process is going well.

Yes I agree, books are harder to purge I think... I have started on this myself - one closet down, and two bags full. Yippee!
I've noticed one thing this year though - it isn't that I've accumulated that much over the past few years, it's that I'm more willing to let go of the things I don't need - that's the real change...

Books are tough. Well, some anyway. I cull through ours every once in awhile and find some that are just not good and those go. My daughter just borrowed a big box to decorate with and I got nervous...you know I want them back right? I asked. Good grief if she forgets, I'll never miss them!

You used one of my favorite words - 'culling'. My kids used to think I made that one up, but after using it a lot when referring to their rooms, they finally looked it up. I have a hard time getting rid of books as well, but did when we moved. I have made the transition to virtual books via Kindle although I went kicking and screaming. I just love the look of a bookcase! And I do have most of my children's books - which I'm not sure they are aware of. Ann

I have missed many of your posts and I'm just now catching this one. Where have I been?!?!
I'm a book collector, too. Very difficult for me to give away or pass on books...and I rarely do, unless I know someone needs it more than I. I have culled some for our local branch library, too...and the older I get, the more I'm "lightening my load" of stuff. Books???...sometimes don't classify as stuff. :)
Thanks for always sharing your charm, good wit, and intellectual thoughts. Refreshing.

I´m like you . love to have a book in my hands even though I read on my ipad while on travels.
I have soooo many books - can´t part with any - need to actually. running out of space.
We´re restoring a new house (a summer house) - which means room for more books :-)
