Whatcha Been Doing?

Several folks have called and written
 and asked "Whatcha Doing?"

I've been invited to a "sew in" B-Day bash soon
and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to
work on a quilt I started YEARS ago.

I used to sew all the time and then life,
issues and other interests got in the way
 and I stopped quilting entirely.
I love the fabrics in this quilt..very much
my old primitive favorites but it will still
go quite nicely in my blue and brown bedroom.

It requires 96 blocks and I am at 64 as of today.

Every block is random and includes plaids and checks
in browns, beiges, blues and a touch of yellows.
I opened the basket where the blocks and strips
 were stored and just
threw them out on the chair and desk
 and started sewing.

I'll see how far I get before the sew in and
then an entire day there just may "get er' done"

Sew a side, trim/turn, sew a side, trim/turn
and so on.
A Log Cabin

I just toss them to the floor as they are completed.
Funny they look crooked here but they're not. I did
not cut the strips with anything but abandon
so the plaids and checks do not always run straight.
I wanted it that way, to appear primitive and I
will most likely overdye it when finished also.

I was thinking I will add a solid border with some appliques
perhaps because I love doing those also.
I miss doing needlecraft.
Maybe this will resurrect my first love.
Needle and thread

A painters pallet of fabrics
It is all connected

In other news I shared a lovely day on Monday
with a photographer Tracey Perry,
who shot my home for a Holiday Book
to hopefully be published next year.
It is a major undertaking and I will keep
you posted as I proceed.

I am thrilled to be able to get
Christmas taken down, and do some more purging
and a thorough cleaning of the house.
I have NEVER had it up this long before,
it has made me a little antsy.

Because of my organized box system
it will come down lickety split.
WOOT!

So that's my story
What's yours?

Hey there, Z!

I was thinking of you the other day and wondering what you were up to!

I love sewing... but haven't had the little machine out since last summer. I have a couple small projects in mind.

Hubs & I just finished insulating the new workshop. Up on ladders again, stuffing insulation into the rafters & walls & stapling it in place. Woo-hoo, that's done! We're going to pay some nice young man to do the sheetrock, then it's just a case of finishing up the electrical & hooking up the heater to pass the final building inspection.

We've decided this is the last building we'll build, well, unless we make ourselves the general contractor and pay the different trades to build it. ;)

Enjoy your sewing!
xo,
Lin

Oh gosh, I laughed when I read you just threw them down...and I see neat piles of strips. We are not birds of a feather. LOL That to me would be, I carefully laid them out on the chair...

You have an old Pooh bear!!! I have the very same one from when I was just a babe. :-)

And all that fabric is beautiful, I look forward to seeing your finished work.

My story - kind of the same, but different... needle and thread, first loves, making things, being happy.
I love log cabin quilts, and plaids are my favourite - I recognized a few of yours!
I hope the book thing works out z, and that you are well and truly over your flu...

My dad taught me to sew when I was in high school and he bought me a White sewing machine, still the one I use. Big heavy thing, can't kill it! I have always wanted to make a quilt but find it a daunting task. If I lived closer to you I would come over and get your help! If I made a quilt, I would want one like the one you are making, love it!

Wowza, a QUILT! I don't think I could ever muster up the attention span for a project like that. I am looking forward to seeing what you mean about the over dying.

That is going to be gorgeous! I have never quilted, I don't really think I have the attention span for it :) I have been keeping busy making baubles, soap and new sachets. Some Valentine's stuff. Plus doing whatever I can to stay warm. -8* today. -27 with wind chill. The kids have a 'too cold for school' day today and so just finished making pancakes for breakfast and apple crisp for tonight's dinner. Have fun at your quilting get together, crafting with others is always a good time. t.xoxo p.s. I have done everything I can to switch back from no-reply and google doesn't want to play nice. I have noticed that others have the same now in my inbox that haven't before. :(

My first love was quilting I made them and sold them, I have a queen size log cabing done in deep greens, a blue and white dresden plate that I made for my mom, she was a big blue willow fan. After I tackled a feathered star there was nothing left. I may take it up again after I have no more scrapbooks to make! I love the colors of your log cabin, I also love that circle quilt on that chair arm there!! Nice!!
