Shacking Up

Got your attention?

Yes, tomorrow I begin living with a man
for the first time in 8 years!!!

No not him, DAMN!

No, not like that....
This man is the lovely husband
of a dear friend of mine.
Now I've really got you going...

The story:
My friend Kristin and I met about 8 years ago,
when we worked together and became good friends.
Even though she soon moved out of state,
we always stayed in touch and kept up with
each other's lives.
Kristin and her husband have had to live apart
the past few months as he relocated
back to work here in lala land and
she and the kids remained several states away.
Times are tough and paying two rents
while you have 6 kids
is not an easy task, so in order to expedite
the entire family's move here,
Rick will be staying in my guest room
to help make this family move all happen by June.

Now new roomie is a very nice man,
but I've been thinking it will take some adjustment
 as many things will change.
No more lazing around in my old pj's,
with no bra and gaps and holes in crotches....
or dropping my pants to throw in the laundry
downstairs at the last minute.
No more burping (or other gases), that
are permitted whenever you wish, when you live alone.
I might actually have to check the mirror
before leaving my room so as not to frighten the poor guy.

So things are changing every which way I look.
I am finally reasonably recovered from the creeping crud.
I am employed outside the home, for the first time
in many years, and I am currently purging my home
of hundreds of items as I lighten up.

It's good to be brave, it's good to GIVE.
I think this deed might meet my 2012 word criteria.
Also been helping a friend with a sudden move,
holding group garage sale for friends in need again,
and trying to plan some classes, and an event at my
home perhaps this fall...so GIVING is in residence.
Of course, all this means I have been posting less
but that too will change as I settle into 2012.
I have a Zillion design ideas I want to try
and I have been craving handwork so
out come my needle and thread, or rug hook, or
knitting needles, or...stay tuned
Z

Wow, You have had quite the year so far and it's only February! Lots of change. But change is good, well, at least I like it. lol I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the first week of your new house guest living there. Can't wait to see what designs you have come up with. Oh, this is going to be fun!

Be grateful it's NOT the guy in the pic, cuz you'd NEVER get anything done! lol

A few years back, we took in some folks to help them through a rough spot, even held their wedding at our house! Yeah, it changes a LOT of things you do, but you feel like you are really helping someone out, and that feels SO good.

How generous of you to open your home for him.

That is a great thing to do! We have had three geographical bachelors live with us (that's what they call it in the Navy) over the years and although it DOES make a change in you life, it gives you happiness to know you have helped someone who needed it! One of the guys we had was a super neatnick and was always straightening up (YAY). Another one liked to cook (YAY) And the third broke my computer but helped my husband install a French drain and build china cabinets in the dining room (boohoo & YAY)The last one was my own brother so I had to forgive him.....LOL
Hope it works out as a YAY for you both!

How great! We have had three geographical bachelors (that's what they call it in the armed forces) stay with us over the years. it DOES change your daily habits a bit but can be wonderful! One of the guys was a neatnik and always straightening up and washing dishes (YAY). One liked to cook (YAY) and bought groceries at the commissary. One broke my computer (boohoo) but helped my husband install a French drain and remodel our dining room (YAY) So, enjoy the opportunity! I hope it works out as a YAY for you both.
It IS too bad the first guy couldn't stay but think of the pressure...always having to look your hottest....not worth the trouble at our age...LOL

PS...my first attempt to post didn't work so just delete one if they both show up!

You definitely deserve some kind of award for opening up your heart and home to help a friend out. I'm certain your kindness and generosity won't soon be forgotten.

OK, I had to leave a second comment...when I first opened your blog this morning, I thought you were trying to make a statement of some sort, as it opened in the "abbreviated page mode", and all I got was your photo from the waist down!

I just dropped by again, for something I missed, and WOW - if this was really your roommate, I would be asking to rent the third room!

ROFLMAO...I felt this way when I stayed with my son and DIL for 2 1/2 months after Don died! I was grateful but I couldn't do any of things you said in your post...really cramps a persons style ;-)

How wonderful that you are able to do all these things for your friends! So happy you're feeling better and life is looking UP^

Would love to meet you in person and live nearby because you seem to always be doing good deeds for others. Also, I'd love to be on the receiving end or purchasing end of your downsizing and garage sales! Your comments and word pictures always hit so close to home---fun, fun, fun.

Yikes, and this is just the first month of 2012!! You are a good woman to open your home. We have been in that situation a couple times and it does take adjustments but it is paying forward because you never know when you might need a little help yourself.

Good God Z....I don;t think I could handle a new man on my turf no matter how lovely he is. My morning hair would certainly make him appreciate his wife back home.

I think you are so kind to open your home like this. New experiences are always good for the heart and soul.

So glad you are feeling better.

What a good friend you are! I'm sure it will be different and interesting to have a 'roommate'.....especially regarding your home attire! Love your honesty..and I can certainly relate. Yesterday, I noticed that my blouse was on inside-out and didn't even care as I was having a 'work' day. I later thought to myself though..."Oh no.....I've turned into one of those old women".....
Oh well....
Blessings always....stay well,
susie

Hi Z,
It's wonderful that you are able to help your friends out and it doesn't surprise me in the least!
I just bought a copy of Country Sampler last night and got a chance to look at all the lovely photos of your home. It is beautiful. It's so much fun to read these magazines when I know the people being featured!!
I'm adjusting slowly to a quiet house. Too many loose ends to follow up on right now to think too much about what the future holds for me. But now that I read that you're planning more classes......a trip to Vegas might be just what I need.

What a gal! And what a year so far... jobs and roomies... they'll both change things but maybe a shake-up is a good thing now and then. Can't wait to hear the inevitable stories!

Good way to get and keep reader's attention! You will be participating in your own little social experiment. Too bad for us the cameras won't be rolling. You'll have a great time having some company, and you are doing the family a wonderful favor! Karmen

Of course "give" lives in your house this year. She has lived there in years past too. Her first name is "Z".....and if that hunk was living there with you, I'd be asking you to GIVE him to me ;)

Hugs for positive changes!

Yes....you did definitely get my attention. I'm catching up on my blog reading and decided I wasn't going to bombard you with tons of comments on each and every post I missed and was finally reading, but couldn't pass this one up. You can ship HIM and the couch he's on straight to Nod. I seriously doubt that your new roomie will be as embarrassed as my son and his friends were when they went in MY study to use MY computer and MY bra happened to be laying on the daybed. C'est la vie, ya know? Good luck with the "arrangement" - I'm sure he'll be having just as many adjustments to make....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
